I shared an image of my father and I a couple of posts back. It told a story about a father, daughter and a purple crab! Though I like the illustration, it is an illustration and I have been working to get off the page! I want to use my stories to talk about how reliving memories, good ones such as that one, and traumatic ones can be healing.
I Guess I am a Textile Artist...
As I continue to work with embroidery I can see that the possibilities are endless! I’m experimenting with colour, shape and soon size. I am trying to figure out ways to display them. Framing, placement?
The working title of the series is called “The Body Remembers”. It’s a reflection of certain traumas and events in my life. I know that others have had similar experiences and I hope through talking creating art about them, that it will lead to some interesting conversations.

At the beginning of the summer 2020 I started my Masters of Fine Art journey. Originally it was set to be a one month summer intensive at Emily Carr University, but with a shut down world it was moved online, at home, for 2 months. I am excited to be back in school. I forgot how much I loved critical thought, experimentation and research. This blog will be about some of the work I produce process. Hopefully you’ll see my Master’s Thesis evolve.
Currently I am interested in ideas of women’s work. As a stay at home mum that had all but given up art, I turned to my domestic role for fulfillment, picking up sewing again, cooking and raising kids. I had a very defined role as wife, often when I introduced myself I would add I am Jeff Carroll’s wife. Within the idea of women’s work I am looking at identity and voice, especially around sexuality and empowerment.
